Netflix is streaming Carry-On, an American action thriller film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, which features Taron Egerton playing a Transportation Service Administration (TSA) officer.

What if you are an upright security officer at a busy LA airport, with your job affecting lives of countless passengers? How would you react if an unknown caller FORCES you to do something which is not only against anyone’s principles but dangerous too?

Carry-On movie plot

Ethan Kopek is a TSA officer employed at the Los Angeles International Airport. He lives with his girlfriend Nora (Sofia Carson), and the couple are expecting a baby. Unambitious after being rejected from the police academy for concealing his father’s criminal history, Ethan is eager for a promotion.

He requests his supervisor Phil Sarkowski (Dean Norris) to allow him to man the baggage-scanning lane to show his merit for promotion. What could have been a ‘lifetime opportunity’ for Ethan turns out to be a nightmare.

He receives an earbud from a random passenger. Initially reluctant to put it into his ears, he is compelled to do so after receiving a mysterious text message. He puts the earbud and the person on the other end is a mercenary ‘The Traveler’. The caller asks him to let a suitcase pass through the baggage scan or his girlfriend Nora would be shot dead by a sniper.

To jusitfy his threat, the mercenary even gets Ethan’s colleague killed by inducing a heart attack through aconitine. The TSA officer is frightened and unwillingly participates in this dangerous game. To know why is this suitcase important, you will have to watch the entire film by yourself.

Netflix film Carry-On is written by TJ Fixman and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. The Spanish filmmaker is known for his films with Liam Neeson like Unknown, Non-Stop, and Run All Night.

The film features Taron Egerton essaying the lead role of TSA officer Ethan Kopek. The 35-year-old Welsh actor is known for playing a spy in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle. He received Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for portraying music Elton John in biographical film Rocketman.

The film begins on a slow note and takes time to build it up. If you are short of time, it would hell annoying for you. But when Carry-On actually takes pace, OMG it is going to hook you from that point till the end.

Egerton as Ethan Kopek has played the role really well, and watching him would make you feel that both of you are facing this situation together. But he is not alone. Carry-On also rests on the shoulders of Jason Bateman aka Traveller, who makes Ethan do all kinds of wrong things to let the ‘suspicious’ baggage make it to the aircraft. Traveler’s sadistic avatar and firmness to bend Ethan to his knees to commit the dangerous act is TBH praiseworthy.

If you are up for something thrilling and a decent watch, not burdened with expectations, I suggest you give this film a shot. If it is not going to blow your mind, it won’t disappoint you either. So just sit back on the couch, grab some popcorn and watch how security staff at airports have a tough time ensuring safety of everyone.
