Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies
Directed by Kiran Rao, Laapataa Ladies released last year. The film is produced by Rao, Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande. The film is about two young newly-wed brides who get exchanged during a train journey to their husbands’ villages. The film featured Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel and Ravi Kishan in pivotal roles.
According to a PTI report, Rao had said she hopes the film will be selected as India’s entry for Oscars. “My dream would be fulfilled if it was, if it would go (to Oscars). But it’s a process, and I’m hoping it’ll (Laapataa Ladies) be considered. I’m sure the best film will go, whoever they choose in the scheme of things,” she had told the agency.
