To the world, she is ‘Lady Superstar’ Nayanthara, a powerful actor who braved adversities that came her way. But she is Nayan to her friends, family, peers and better half Vignesh Sivan alias Vikky.
I have seen Nayanthara’s cinematic work in Billa and Chandramukhi, one of the most commercially successful films she acted in. Recently, she shared the screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in Atlee’s blockbuster Jawan.
So when Netflix released the documentary’s trailer, I was intrigued. The controversy involving her and Dhanush also meant that Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale would not fade away so soon.

Yesterday, I watched Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous on Netflix and shared a review on the blog. Although late, I decided to watch Nayanthara’s documentary. I don’t intend to compare the two. Both are different personalities altogether.
The documentary has Nayanthara’s mother Omana Kurian speak candidly about ‘Diana’, the superstar’s birth name before she changed it. An emotional ‘Amma’ speaks about her daughter’s struggles in the tinsel town.
The documentary has some of the biggest film personalities, say Nagarjuna, Vijay Sethupathi, Atlee, Nelson Dilip Kumar, Tamannah and others speak about Nayanthara.
The actor opens up about the controversies in her film career, in which she was subjected to incessant trolling from haters. Standing rock solid in front of her detractors, who at numerous times have been mean, Nayanthara has strongly faced them. She breaks the silence on her past relationships and the lessons she learnt from them.
Be it controversy around her ‘weight’ in Ghajini, or facing backlash for playing Sita in Sri Rama Rajyam, Nayanthara vows never to ‘give up’. The documentary has special unseen moments from her life and her relationship with Vignesh Shivan.
