Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has joined the cast of much-anticipated ‘Border 2’, actor Sunny Deol announced in an Instagram post. He is the second actor after Varun Dhawan to be on board the war-movie.
“Welcoming Fauji @diljitdosanjh to the Battalion of Border 2,” the 67-year-old actor, who featured in the first instalment way back in 1997, posted on Instagram. The teaser has Dosanjh saying in the background,”Iss desh ke taraf uthne wali har nazar jhuk jaati hai khauf se, inn sarhado par jab guru ke paas pehra dete hai.“
Dosanjh, an extremely popular face in the Punjabi film industry, earned rave reviews with the titular role of 1980s Punjabi folk sensation Amar Singh Chamkila in the Imtiaz Ali-helmed Netflix release ‘Chamkila’ this year.
Sunny Deol, who essayed the role of Major Kuldip Singh in Border, had welcomed Varun Dhawan on joining the star cast of the film on Instagram too, saying, “Welcoming fauji @varundwn to the Battalion of Border 2.”

‘Border 2’ is the second instalment of 1997 blockbuster ‘Border’, which is considered one of the best war movies made in India. The film is helmed by Anurag Singh, the filmmaker known for flicks like ‘Kesari’, ‘Punjab 1984’, ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ and ‘Jatt and Juliet’ series.
As of now, the film features Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh in pivotal roles. It is expected that the rest of the star cast will be announced in the run up to the release.
Border 2 release date
According to Deol, ‘Border 2’ is set to release on January 23, 2026. The film will hit the theatres ahead of the Republic Day in 2026.

‘Border’, a war movie, was released on June 13, 1997. The film helmed by JP Dutta is based on the events in the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Dutta is known for war films like ‘LOC Kargil’, based on the 1999 Kargil war, and ‘Paltan’, which was based on the 1967 Nathu La and Cho La clashes between the Indian Army and Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
The 1997 flick ‘Border’ revolves around 120 soldiers of 23rd Battalion of Punjab Regiment led by Major Kuldip Singh (Deol), who defend their post against Pakistani Army. The film featured Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, Akshay Khanna, Punit Issar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sudesh Berry, Rakhee Gulzar, Tabu, Pooja Bhatt and Sharbani Mukherjee.
