Gifted movie Synopsis
Frank Adler (Chris Evans) lives in coastal Florida with his niece Mary (Mckenna Grace). The seven-year-old girl is a mathematics genius and is noticed by her teacher Bonnie (Jenny Slate). Frank outrightly refuses a scholarship for Marie for a private school that is involved with gifted children.
Mary is like no other ordinary girl, she hates average kids but decides to bond with her classmates after bringing her one-eyed cat Fred to the classroom. It turns out that her mother was a mathematics genius who was dedicated to solving the Navier-Stokes problem before dying by suicide.
Frank’s estranged mother Evelyn turns up one fine day and insists on taking Mary along with her, much to her son’s approval. What follows next is an intense custody battle in court between the maternal uncle and grandmother for the custody of this math prodigy.

Gifted is an emotional tale of love and bonding between an uncle and his niece, a relationship quite unexplored on the silver screen. You have to watch this film not just for Evans, but for Mckenna Grace who essays the character of Mary.

(Spoiler alert) There is a scene in which Frank has to let go of Mary due to certain legal compulsions. The separation scene of the duo will tear you up.
