Emergency movie OTT release: Kangana Ranaut-starrer political drama is streaming on this platform

Kangana Ranaut-starrer Emergency is now streaming on Netflix. The political thriller based on the life of former prime minister Indira Gandhi dropped on March 14.

“The gripping story of power and peril. Watch Emergency, now on Netflix,” Netflix posted on X, informing the viewers about the Kangana Ranaut directorial.

“A nation, a decision, an emergency. Emergency ab Netflix par aa gayi hai, zaroor dekhiye,” Ranaut posted on Instagram.

Emergency movie plot

Directed by Kangana Ranaut, the film traces Indira Gandhi’s political journey and rise to power. As the title suggests, the political drama also touches on the 21-month Emergency, imposed by her on June 25, 1975.

The film also depicts Indira Gandhi’s struggles after becoming the prime minister in 1967. Her faceoffs with the all-powerful Syndicate, the decisive 1971 India-Pakistan war, her political comeback after post-Emergency electoral defeat and other events.

Besides Kangana Ranaut, the film features Anupam Kher as socialist leader Jayprakash Narayan, who led the opposition fight against Indira Gandhi. Shreyas Talpade played the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, while Mahima Chaudhry played the role of Mrs Gandhi’s close friend Pupul Jayakar.

Vishak Nair essayed the role of Sanjay Gandhi while Milind Soman donned the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. The film also featured late Satish Kaushik as Babu Jagjivan Ram.

Emergency is Kangana Ranaut’s second directorial after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. The film had released across the theatres on January 17.
