The Kangana Ranaut-starrer Emergency will be released in theatres on January 17. The makers of the film released the historical drama’s second trailer.

The trailer begins with Anupam Kher as Jayprakash Narayan writing a letter to then prime minister Indira Gandhi, essayed by Kangana, from the jail. The next sequence shows a firm Indira Gandhi when asked about the need for a Cabinet nod to proclaim Emergency, replying, “I am the cabinet, Mr President.”

“1975 , Emergency — A Defining chapter in Indian History.
Indira: India’s most powerful woman. Her ambition transformed the nation, but her #EMERGENCY plunged it into chaos,” Kangana wrote on Instagram while sharing the trailer.

The trailer has references to 1971 Indo-Pak war, 1974 Pokhran nuclear test and of course the Emergency. Kangana Ranaut blends into the character of the former PM Indira Gandhi, with her voice also resembling her.

The film was initially scheduled to release on September 6 last year, but got delayed after certain objections by Sikh groups prompted the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to ask for modifications.
