Matt Damon’s The Martian plot
The film is set in 2035 when the crew of Ares III mission to Mars is exploring Acidalia Planitia, a large flat plain on the planet. The mission goes wrong after a severe dust storm hits the planet. During the evacuation, Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is struck by the debris and is presumed dead. The remaining crew takes off leaving him behind.
Watney wakes up after the storm, injured and with low level of oxygen. What follows next is the astronaut using his survival skills to test, trying to overcome the situation on the planet as the space agency races against time to bring him back to Earth.
The Martian is unlike other space movies, looks realistic and without any kind of drama. Matt Damon sinks in the character of an astronaut with ease. The screenplay is really gripping and makes you feel as if you are the one sitting in front of Watney and watching him deal with the situation.
The Martian cast
Apart from Matt Damon, The Martian features Jeff Daniels Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena and others.
